Horace Dennis “Wolfman” Slaughter

Horace Dennis “Wolfman” Slaughter, 70, of Mineral City, passed away on March 20, 2021 in Aultman Hospital at Canton following a year-long battle with lung cancer.

Born in Robbinsville, NC, on December 12, 1950, he was the son of the late Sidney and Azalea (Orr) Slaughter.

Dennis was a person who knew no strangers. His outgoing personality forged numerous relationships over his lifetime. He generously shared the plethora of his extensive gardens with anyone he encountered. He also had a tremendous love for fishing, whether alone or with his family and friends. He hunted ginseng and was a meticulous keeper of his lawn, spending hours mowing.

Additionally, Dennis was a processional timber cutter, having a knack for surveying land and knowing how to cut the timber and determining quantities of the land.

Patience was one of Dennis’ virtues. In his younger years, he was a CDL truck driver. Whether he was on a long haul or sitting patiently waiting in the woods while hunting, he wasn’t in a hurry.

Dennis had a deep faith and was baptized several years ago. In his life journey, he overcame alcoholism and smoking because of his impressive will power alone. Most importantly, he will be remembered as a kind, loving, and compassionate father, grandfather and friend.

His dear wife, the former Margaret A. Laws, preceded him in passing in December of 2007. Together, they were blessed with a close family including their children, India Michelle (Steve) Shotts of Columbus, Robin (fiancé, Adam Kline) Slaughter of Mineral City, Douglas Slaughter of Mineral City, and Angel Slaughter of New Philadelphia; “adopted” children, Philip Stull of New Cumberland and James Wright of New Philadelphia; siblings, Naomi Watts and Bonnie Cook; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Margaret, Dennis was preceded in passing by his parents; his daughter, Crystal Slaughter-Stull; and his sisters, Judy Killian and Wanda Sigmon.

Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Thursday, March 25, 2021 from 2 to 4 p.m. A service celebrating Dennis’ life will begin at 4 pm with Kevin Anslow officiating. Cremation will be cared for following the service.

In recognition of Dennis’ love for nature, his family requests memorial contributions in his memory be directed to the Norma Johnson Center, 85 E. Iron Ave., Dover, OH 44622.
