David John Love

David John Love

David John Love, age 68, of Walworth passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, at home on August 28, 2021.

With his biting sense of humor and telling it as he saw it attitude, Dave no doubt made an impression on everyone he met. If you are wondering if you may have ever met him, you probably didn’t–because you WOULD remember. World renowned for not holding back what he thought on any given subject, especially politics, we are sorry if he offended you; but we won’t make apologies for him because that is just who he was.

Dave was born to John (Jack) and Marjorie (Cooper) Love on February 1, 1953. He was the oldest of their four children.

Dave married the love of his life Michelle Bie in Williams Bay on October 3, 1981. He loved to tell the story of how they met. “Knocking on Michelle’s door at 2 am, he introduced himself as her new neighbor. Not impressed, she said “So!” and slammed the door shut in his face. Not one to give up, he finally got a date and won her heart. Dave said he knew 10 minutes into that first date he wanted to marry Michelle. And three and a half months later he did.”

Dave attended schools in Milwaukee, East Troy, and Elkhorn. He enlisted in the Army in 1970 on his 17th birthday and went into active duty in June of that year. He went through basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, earned his 101st Airborne jump wings at Fort Benning in Georgia, and his beret at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. He was a member of the First Special Forces Group and attached TDY to the Fifth Special Forces Group in Vietnam. This was a part of his life he rarely wanted to talk about.

Dave worked at many jobs during his life but his favorite was as the Gas Plant Manager at Mallard Ridge Landfill where he oversaw the conversion of methane gas to electricity that was fed into the energy grid.

Dave loved taking rides on his motorcycle, fishing, and most of all hunting. When the hunting season ended in February, he would begin counting down the days until the next hunting season opened. On any given day he could tell you exactly how many days to go. He was looking forward to hunting with his son and grandson this fall.

In addition to his wife, Michelle, Dave leaves behind two amazing sons Bryan (Season) Love and Michael (Magen) Love and three awesome grandchildren: Eliana, Emerson, and Melissa. Also surviving are a son Kevin and daughter Amy, his sister Diane Sexton, brother Dennis, and nieces Denise Reynolds and Hanna Thompson.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, sister Dawn Love, in-laws Willy and Betty Bie, brother-in-law Bill Bie, and cousin-in-law Tom Valley, his grandparents, aunts, and uncles.

Despite any shortcomings he may have possessed, he was a loving, giving, and caring man. That is evidenced by the deep sorrow and pain in our hearts left by his passing.

Abiding by David’s wishes, this is the obituary he said he wanted someday, but we are sure he did not mean this soon.

A memorial celebration of David’s life will be held on Sunday, September 26 from 1- 4 pm at the Lions Club Field House on 270 Elkhorn Road (Highway 67) in Williams Bay.
