Barbara “Barb” Carnes Scharett

Barbara “Barb” Carnes Scharett, age 74, passed away in her Hendersonville North Carolina home surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 15, 2022. Barbara was born at Millard Filmore Hospital in Buffalo NY. She was the daughter of Oakley M. and G. Virginia Carnes, and was the youngest of their four children.

Barbara received her education at Arkport Central School. Her first job was at Travelers Insurance Company in Rochester NY. She also spent several years working for the family business Air Vent Aluminum in Arkport, NY. After her move to North Carolina, she worked in downtown Asheville at NCNB Bank in their trust department. Barbara ventured out on her own and started her own medical transcription business, which she ran until she retired in 2014.

Barbara met the love of her life John “Jack” Scharett in the fall of 1967. They were married in Arkport NY on July 26, 1969.

Barbara was an exceptional baker and was best known for her brown bag apple pie. She had a big heart for all animals. Her laughter was infectious, and her humor was unmatched. Barbara loved her family deeply and cherished spending quality time with them. She had a big heart and made everyone feel like family.

She was preceded in death by her parents Oakley M. Carnes and G. Virginia Armstrong Carnes. Her brother Ronald J. Carnes and her sister V. Lynnette Carnes Beman.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years John Murray Scharett of Hendersonville, NC. Her daughter Karen Lynne Scharett Secor and Michael Secor of Peachtree City, Georgia. Her son Michael John Scharett of Candler NC. Her Grandchildren Kylie Sweigart of Charlotte, NC. Jonathan A. Secor of Starkville, MS. Brayden O. Scharett of Joint Base Lewis-McChord Washington. Adam M. Secor of Murfreesboro, TN. Benjamin O. Scharett of Joint Base Lewis-McChord Washington. Zachary H. Secor of Peachtree City, GA . Brother Robert E. Carnes of Hendersonville, NC.

The services for Barbara will take place 1PM at Maple Ridge Baptist Church 133 Medford Brand Road in Candler, NC. In lieu of flowers, Barbara had requested that donations be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project.
