Melody J. Meyer

Melody J. Meyer, 44, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital. She was born February 20, 1977, in Springfield, the daughter of Mark Gilbert Kean and Janet Christine Richards. She married Joshua A. Meyer on July 15, 2000 and he survives.

Also surviving are her father, Mark (Vickie) of Springfield; mother, Janet of Springfield; daughter, Ella Marie Meyer of Springfield; three sisters, Melissa (Jeb) Sanders of Springfield, Miranda (Andrew) Stewart of Girard and Margaret “Maggie” Kean of Springfield; one brother, Mike (Holly) Kean of Elliot; grandfather, Frank Kean of Springfield; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Helen Kean and Kenneth and Marian Richards.

Melody was a resident of Springfield all her life. She graduated from Southeast High School in 1995, and earned her Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy at Concordia University in Mequon, WI in 2013. She was an active member of Athens Christian Church. She loved being involved in Girl Scouts with her daughter, Ella. She was an advocate for children and their families. The Illinois Early Intervention programs and the federal No Child Left Behind Act were very important to her. Melody served as an Occupational Therapy Assistant, and later as an Occupational Therapist for over 16 years. She was a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association.

Visitation: 10 am – 12 pm, Friday, January 21, 2022 at South Side Christian Church.

Funeral Service: 12 pm, Friday, January 21, 2022 at South Side Christian Church, with Pastor Shane Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
