SueAnne Mathews
SueAnne Mathews, age 77, of Heuvelton, NY, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Per her request, there will be no formal visitation or funeral services. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg.
SueAnne is survived by her loving husband, Lawrence J. Mathews of Heuvelton, NY; children, Lisa Mathews and her companion, Pat Bleau, of Lisbon, NY, Lawrence Mathews and his wife, Valerie, of Lisbon, NY, Leslie Mathews of Lisbon, NY, and LeeAndrew Mathews and his wife, Mellisa, of Oswegatchie, NY; grandchildren, Ryan Mathews, Logan Mathews, Rebecca Mathews, Austin Bleau, Alicia Mason, Anna Hoffman, Mathew Bleau, and Andrew Mathews; great grandchildren, Rosaline Mason, Thatcher Mathews, and Maisie Mason; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. SueAnne is predeceased by her parents, Henry and Audrey Ryan; and her siblings, Thomas Ryan and Faye R. Rose.
SueAnne was born on August 26, 1947, in Ogdensburg, NY, the daughter of the late Henry K. and Audrey (Rheome) Ryan. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1966 and went on to marry Lawrence James Mathews on July 6, 1968, at St. Mary’s Cathedral, with Rev. Douglas Comstock officiating.
In 1979, SueAnne returned to school to pursue a degree in nursing at Canton ATC, graduating with her associate’s degree in 1982. She began her career at A. Barton Hepburn Hospital in 1982, later moving on to St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center. SueAnne finished her career as a registered nurse at Riverview Correctional Facility, where she remained until her retirement in 2003.
SueAnne was known for her love of crosswords, snowmobiling, cooking, baking, traveling, and spending time at the casino. She embraced life with enthusiasm, always eager to try something new and stay active. As president of the Coffee Cup CB’ers Club, she brought people together and helped foster a strong sense of community. Above all, SueAnne will be remembered for her energy, warmth, and the joyful way she shared her passions with family and friends.
