Jerry Wayne Morgan 1958-2025

Jerry Wayne Morgan passed away on April 5, 2025 peacefully at his mother’s home in Sumiton, AL.  He was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on September 12, 1958 to his parents, Earl and Maxine Morgan.  He grew up in Minor Heights where he attended Minor High School.  He retired from the City of Graysville after 27 years of service.

Jerry – best known as Papa Smurf – had a passion for being at Smith Lake. He and his boys built a house there – Papa Smurf’s Playhouse, where he spent a majority of his time.  Whether he was cruising in a pontoon boat, anchored down and chilling at the Island, or cooking on the grill, he was always entertaining family and friends and was effortlessly the life of the party and center of attention.  His smile and laugh were contagious, and he will be remembered by those he loved and had shared so many memories with.

Jerry was predeceased by his father, Earl Douglas Morgan, his aunt Florence Mickle, and his uncle Thomas Jett.  He is survived by his mother, Maxine Carol Jett Morgan, his sons and daughter-in-laws Tristan Morgan and Stevie Morgan, and Zane Morgan and Cassandra Kellogg, along with his grandchildren Rhett, Wren, Judd, and Jay. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Lorraine Morgan, as well as his aunt Flora Ruth Greene and uncles Terry Jett, Steve Jett, and Stanley Jett.  He leaves behind many extended family members and countless great friends.

The family would like to thank the hospice and home care teams for their kindness, patience, and unwavering dedication to Jerry during his final months.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish to make a contribution in memory of Jerry, please consider donating to the Smith Lake Environmental Preservation Committee at https//www.slepc.org to help keep our waterways clean and healthy for future generations of kids to enjoy and wildlife to thrive.
