Harry Clayton

On the evening of June 9th, 2025, Harry James Clayton went home to be with the Lord at the age of 79. He was born on December 21, 1945, in Hendersonville, NC. He married the love of his life, Carol Orr, and they shared 44 years of a loving marriage. Preceding Carol’s passing in 2014, there was not a day that went by that Harry did not talk about Carol. He is now with his bride again.

Harry was well-known and loved by his community and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He found his passion for horses as a child, and he led a family legacy of showing and training Tennessee walking horses and racking horses. If Harry wasn’t on the back of a horse, you could find him on the seat of a tractor in a hay field. He worked at Kimberly-Clark for over 20 years as a material handler. Shortly after retiring, he worked at Mountain Bean Growers for Kirby Johnson.

Harry is survived by his sons: Craig Clayton and wife, Wanda of Hendersonville, Chris Clayton and wife, Sarah of Brevard. Brother: Donald Clayton and wife, Jane of Hendersonville. Sister: Shirley Harrelson and husband, John of Hendersonville. Grandchildren: Miranda Bannish (Clayton), Maddie Clayton, and Gracie Clayton.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Etowah Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
