Carson City man arrested for accidentally discharging firearm into neighboring apartment

A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested on a misdemeanor offense of discharging a firearm at an apartment complex on College Parkway which ended up going through the walls of another apartment.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the apartment complex at around 9 p.m. Wednesday night on report of a gunshot heard the previous night, and the caller stated they discovered a bullet hole in their apartment.

Deputies arrived and spoke with the reporting neighbor who stated they had discovered that a bullet had traveled through his bedroom, into another bedroom, and through the neighboring wall.

They said they heard a loud bang that sounded like a gunshot at about midnight the night before. Deputies asked why they hadn’t reported it at the time, and they said they believed the noise was coming from outside and it was someone trying to wake them. They said they started yelling when they heard the loud bang, but didn’t know it was a gunshot until they woke up the next morning and found the bullet holes.

They told deputies they’ve been having ongoing issues with another resident in the complex, and it may have been that subject that fired into their residence. They said their bedroom window was partially open, and believed the bullet came from outside shot into the residence.

Deputies went to contact the adjacent apartment to ensure no one was injured. They spoke with the neighbor who immediately told deputies he was responsible for the accidental discharge according to the report.

Deputies asked why he didn’t report the incident immediately, and he said he was nervous about calling the sheriff’s office.

He showed deputies the handgun in his bedroom and the bullet entry location, and stated it traveled through his mother’s bedroom ball and into the neighbor’s apartment.

He told deputies when he arrived home from work that night, he was showing another subject the firearm. He said he removed the magazine and placed it on the bed but did not check the chamber for a round. While holding the firearm, he said his finger was on the trigger and he unintentionally fired a round.

He said after the discharge, he and the other subject went outside to listen if anyone was yelling, but heard nothing. He said he then inserted a rod through the bullet hole to determine if the bullet had entered the adjacent residence.

Deputies lectured the man on the serious dangers of not reporting the discharge when it occurred, including the fact that it went through several bedrooms including a child’s bedroom, who was luckily not there at the time.

The man completed a written statement, which deputies stated in the report matched the reporting neighbor’s story “exactly.”

The man was taken into custody without issue.

Man arrested for repeatedly lying in roadway early Thursday morning

A 38-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the area of E. Nye Lane and Airport just before 6 a.m. Thursday morning for disorderly conduct after deputies were called on report of someone “lying in the middle of the road.”

When deputies arrived on scene, they found the man lying on the ground with his forearms in the roadway and his legs on the sidewalk.

When the reporting deputy got out of their vehicle, they said the man looked up at them.

The deputy asked if they needed medical attention, and the man said no. The deputy noted he was “sweating and having a hard time standing still.”

The deputy asked if the man had used drugs recently, and he said no. The deputy patted the man down and found no contraband.

The deputy then went to the corner of E. Nye Lane and Airport Road, and observed the man lay back down on the sidewalk.

The man then “slowly lowered his head until it was over the threshold of the sidewalk and into the roadway.”

According to the report, the man was arrested for disorderly conduct due to him lying on the sidewalk and roadway. He was taken into custody without issue.

Woman arrested on DUI drugs, medication without prescription

A 27-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the 3000 block Highway 50 E. for DUI drugs first, driving on a suspended license, possessing medical drugs without a prescription, and felony possession of a controlled substance.

Editor’s Note: the arrest report never indicates the woman was found with any controlled substance other than medication, and it is not known what was found to make the felony arrest.

According to the arrest report, the reporting deputy stated they arrived on scene at around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday and was told by the deputy who conducted the initial traffic stop that they’d smelled a strong odor of cannabis coming from the vehicle.

They said the other deputy informed them while the vehicle was pulling into the location, it almost caused an accident with oncoming cars.

The reporting deputy spoke with the woman and asked if she would consent to doing a field sobriety test, and she said that she would. She told the reporting deputy she had not consumed any alcohol in the past two days, and said she smokes cannabis daily, which she has done since she was 15 or 16-years-old.

The report included what was done as part of the sobriety test, but it did not include if or how many indications the woman showed of being intoxicated.

The woman was taken into custody at the end of the sobriety tests, and a search was done of her person resulting in no contraband found. A search was done of her purse, and deputies located a glass jar with four white pills identified as Acetaminophen and Hydrocodone Bitartrate, an opioid pain reliever that requires a prescription.

The woman told deputies the pills were hers, and that she takes them when she feels like she is going to have a seizure. The deputy advised that because they were not in a  prescription bottle she would be charged for them as well.

She was transported to the jail without incident and consented to an evidentiary blood draw.
