The Department of Parks, Recreation, and Open Space is actively investigating reports of tree decline that have been identified in various locations across the City.

Preliminary observations suggest the presence of potentially invasive species and evidence of tree disease affecting the health of several tree populations. Carson City, in coordination with local technical experts, including certified arborists, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, and pest control contractors, aims to thoroughly assess and determine the scope, cause, and appropriate response to the situation.

The City is committed to maintaining its urban canopy and ensuring a healthy ecosystem for residents and understands the importance of trees for providing shade, improving air quality, and enhancing the overall aesthetic of the community, and is taking decisive action.

Residents observing tree stress and decline on private property may want to consider contacting a certified arborist for guidance and assistance.

To find an arborist visit treesaregood.org/findanarborist, which is the International Society of Arboriculture’s credentialed resources or University of Nevada, Reno Cooperative Extension at extension.unr.edu

Further updates and guidance will be shared as more information becomes available.
