Happening now: Capital City Brewfest
- May 31, 2025

The annual Capital City Brewfest presented by the Carson City Rotary Club kicked off without a hitch Saturday afternoon taking the high temperatures all in stride.
Plenty of sunshades and water misters kept the crowd cool while patrons sipped and sampled delicious ice cold craft beers and libations.
A range of breweries from Carson City, Reno, and the Truckee Meadows area came out to pour their speciality brews, with proceeds from the event going toward scholarships and community projects put on by the rotary club.
Garrett Lepire, chair of Capital City Brewfest and rotary club member announced a new corn hole event with a cash prize. “We’re doing a long toss competition, if you win it, you win 500 bucks and a super cool trophy.” Lepire said. “But this is the biggest street party in Carson City and it’s always a blast.”
This “hoppy” event is the rotary club’s biggest fundraiser.
“We take the money we raise to give out $12,000 a year in scholarships, mostly to WNC, and we also do a big community project every year. This year we did a huge cleanup and planted wisteria vine at Lone Mountain Cemetery,” added Lepire.
The bubbly festivities also gives local brewers a chance to showcase their seasonal selections. Local favorite Shoe Tree Brewing had a crisp Italian-style pilsner, watermelon sour, and their signature Coco Burrito Porter.
Paul Young, one of the founders of Shoe Tree Brewing looks forward to brewfest every year. “It’s like our hometown event, great location in downtown and super fun.”
Another fan favorite is South Reno’s Schussboom Brewing Co., who served up a Helles German lager, a fruited mango tangerine wheat beer, and their Timbers hazy IPA.
Briana Wagner, president of Schussboom Brewing Co. says Capital City Brewfest is a great opportunity to serve their customer base residing in Carson City, and support other local breweries in the area.
“One reason why we really love this event is we have a lot of our customer base from Carson City that actually come out to South Reno,” said Wagner. “And they’ll meet up at our brewery with friends and realize that we’re only 15, maybe 20 minutes away.”
The event is going on now until 8 p.m. Attendees who purchased tasting tickets will get to cast their vote for their favorite brewery of the night.
We will update this story once the winner is announced.
