Ann Therese Snyder, age 96, of Brick, NJ, passed away after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Born in Scranton, PA, she lost her vision in childhood and attended Overbrook School for the Blind. She earned her bachelor’s from Marywood University and attained a master’s degree in social work from Boston College.
A lifelong Catholic, Therese served as Director of the Catholic Guild for the Blind, a program of Catholic Charities under the Archdiocese of New York, from 1968 to 2006. She was a tireless advocate for the marginalized and underserved.
A single, blind woman, she adopted a blind daughter from South Korea, Dr. Lauren Snyder, and raised her with devotion and strength—while working full time and commuting four hours each day to support her. Together they traveled widely and shared a life of deep connection. She adored her granddaughter, Emily Therese Snyder, and loved theatre, fine dining, and her friends, especially Lilly O’Keeffe.
In her final days, she was cared for by Katie Gilligan with kindness and presence that brought comfort and peace.
Therese was and is deeply loved by her daughter and granddaughter. She poured all of herself into loving them with unwavering devotion, pride, and joy.
She leaves behind a legacy of courage, compassion, and unwavering faith. May we all strive to continue her mission: making the world kinder, more just, and more inclusive.
