William Irwin Shaver, 92 of Murphy, TX, passed away Friday, March 3, 2023 at the Medical Center of Plano.

Bill was born on August 18, 1930 in Detroit, MI, the oldest of five children of Ruth Annie (Jackson) and William Irwin Shaver.  He grew up in the Mount Clemons and St. Clair Shores areas. Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1948 and served for 3 years. He worked at JL Hudson Department Store in Detroit. He re-enlisted in 1950. While at Selfridge AFB in Michigan, he met and married Ethel Ivy Gwynn on February 1, 1958 in Mount Clemons, MI. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, William Irwin III and Robert Edward. Following a remote tour of duty at Wakkanai, Japan, his assignments and transfers included Hill AFB, Utah, overseas tours from the Philippine Islands to Germany and the Island of Crete, before returning to the United States where Bill was stationed at Kelly AFB, San Antonio, TX. He retired in 1972, attaining the rank of Technical Staff Sargent.

Bill was an avid reader and always looked forward to attending Shaver family reunions. He enjoyed spending time with friends, especially his family, who were his pride and joy.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Ruth; beloved wife Ethel in 2011; son Bob in 2022; sister Janet Roweton and husband Ted; and brother Jim Shaver and wife Marilyn.

Bill is survived by his son Bill Shaver and wife Cindy; daughter-in-law Linda Shaver; grandchildren, William Shaver IV, Christopher Shaver, Nicholas Shaver and wife Cameron, and Kristen Shaver and fiance David Elliott; sisters, Lois Leu and husband Eugene, and Karen Shaver; numerous nieces and nephews and their families; special friend and companion Mary Haugarth and her family; along with other relatives and his church friends.
