Victor F. Schrader

Victor F. Schrader, 94, of The Villages, Florida and formerly of Dover-New Philadelphia, died peacefully at The Serenades in The Villages, Florida on June 11, 2021, following a short period of declining health.

Born in New Philadelphia on November 5, 1926, he was the son of the late Frederick and Bessie Mae (Huff) Schrader. After graduating from New Philadelphia High School in 1944, Vic honorably served his country in the United States Navy Air Force as an Aviation Electrician. While on leave in October 1945, he married his wife of 63 years, the late Nettie (Kinsey) Schrader.
Vic started his professional career with the former Warner & Swasey Co. in New Philadelphia. He retired as a Supervisor after 31 years.

Vic and Nettie joined the Broadway United Methodist Church in 1953 where they both served as faithful and very active members. Vic served in many areas, including membership of the Golden Rule Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Men, and served as Chairmen of Trustees for several terms. He was most proud of his work in the sound room where he was Sound Room Coordinator for 15 years and then continue to be an active church member and helped in the sound room until he moved to Florida in 2018.

Vic loved to drive! He and Nettie enjoyed many trips and drove to Canada, and to all but 2 of the Continental States. Vic also enjoyed bowling, horse shoes, playing Jass, Phase 10, Dominoes and crossword puzzles. He loved listening to music, especially while lying in his chair.

After retiring, he enjoyed working for Chuck Nicholson as a driver, picking up and/or delivering cars all over northeastern Ohio and into Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Vic was known to his friends, neighbors and especially to his family as the one that would come to help you with anything. From fixing your car (he always retuned them spotless inside and out, especially the windshield and both headlights.) to mowing lawns, shoveling snow, giving you a ride or sharing whatever he had. He was dependable and always on time! Vic’s big smile, hardy laugh, warm heart, and loud whistle will never be forgotten. He was a quiet, gentle man who never met a stranger. He was ALWAYS happy and loved by all.

Vic will be deeply missed and always cherished by his two daughters, Carol (Dave) Beyer of The Villages, Florida and Vicki (Dennis) Smith of Evans, Georgia; his 5 grandchildren, Kevin (Evette) Walter of Sugar Hill Georgia, Dr. Julie (Rob) Durando of Key Largo Florida, Erik Walter of Tampa, Florida, Carri Connell of Evans, Georgia, Kelly Bently of Evans, Georgia; 11 great-grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, and 7 step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Vic is preceded in passing by his wife, Nettie; his daughter, Sandra Schrader and siblings Valouis Kappler, Vivian Novak, Vala Hinson, Fritz Schrader, Gloria Funk and Marcele Schrader.

A service celebrating Vic’s life will be held in Broadway United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia on Saturday, August 14, 2021 beginning at 1 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will follow in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia following the service.

Memorial contributions in Vic’s memory may be directed to the Broadway United Methodist Church, 120 Church St., New Philadelphia, OH 44663, for the benefit of the sound room.
