Robert Martin Dombeck

Robert Martin “Bob” Dombeck, 93, of Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully at The Inn at Northwood Village in Dover on September 17, 2022 following a period of declining health.

Born July 20, 1929, he was the son of the late Robert John and Genevieve (Martin) Dombeck. After graduating from Ellwood City High School in 1947, he continued his formal education at Penn State University where he was a member of the Big Blue Band.

Bob honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1948 to 1952, where he was a member of the Navy dance band.

Bob married his late wife of 41 years, the former Teresa Helen Grzelka, on March 2, 1957 in Holy Trinity Church in Beaver Falls, PA. Bob’s professional career spanned 33 years at Gradall, where he retired as the manager of facilities. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #510, the New Philadelphia VFW Post #1445, and the American Legion.

When his son, Dave, was in the New Philadelphia Band, Bob served as Band Parent president when Cheryl Graham began her directing career there. His passion for music spanned his lifetime playing the bass and trombone in area bands including Recollections, Dominic Greco Band, and the Lou Woods Orchestra. He was a true “Gigging Musician”, and shared that love of music with his sons, Jim and Dave.

He is survived by his sons, David A. Dombeck of New Philadelphia, Richard A. Dombeck of Elgin, SC, and James R. (Melissa) Dombeck of Bolivar; his companion, Patricia Brink of Dover; and his sisters, Nina Dolick of Mt. Vernon, Mary Ann (Rich) Horner of Lady Lake, Florida, and Jayne (Charles) Cook of Atlanta, Georgia.

In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, James Dombeck.
