Paul LaVern Huggins, 87, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Tuesday Oct. 25, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. until service time. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery will follow the service. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Paul LaVern Huggins was born on Nov. 6, 1934, in Aurora, Iowa, to William and Emma (Olmstead) Huggins. Paul married the love of his life, Mae, on May 31, 1955, in Kahoka, Mo. They raised six children, Larry (Esther), Terry (Val), Nancy (Dennis), William (Christine), Robbin (Jon II), and Londa.

He was a devoted husband to Mae for 67 years and a loving father and grandfather to his six children, 21 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Paul and Mae were thankful to their very special friends/godparents, Gary and Susan Keune of Marion, who have been part of their lives for over four decades.

He was a dedicated employee of Quaker Oats and retired after 43 years of service. Paul loved to travel and enjoyed attending country music shows in Branson, Mo., with his wife. He loved anything red and relished the opportunity to show family and friends his collections of belt buckles and Campbell Soup items. He went to Cedar Memorial to visit and talk to his wife Mae daily for over four years, even wearing out a path from the road to her grave.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae; parents, William Arthur and Emma Huggins; siblings, Helen, Maude, James, Dorothy, Tommy, Betty, Velma and Dick; son, Larry; daughter-in law, Val; grandson, Shawn; great-granddaughter, Megan; godfather, Gary Keune; and his adorable dog, Annie.

A memorial fund has been established in Paul’s name.
