Melinda “Mindy” O’Leary, age 72, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away of natural causes on October 30, 2025.

A graduate of Mason City High School, Mindy continued her education at the University of Iowa, earning both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in social work. She will be lovingly remembered by family and friends for her intelligence, quick-witted sense of humor, astonishing memory and her open and generous heart. Many years a therapist, she dedicated her professional life to helping others.

Mindy loved the water and grew up swimming and soaking up the sunshine with relatives and friends in Clear Lake, Iowa. Later, she enjoyed weekends on the Mississippi River and spending time in her sister’s backyard pool. Her other interests included reading, following politics and gardening.

A private, family memorial is planned for a later date. Per her wishes, Mindy was cremated and will be laid to rest next to her parents.
