Marion Donnelly Ely
Marion Donnelly Ely, 93, of Springfield, passed away on December 8, 2022 at St. John’s Hospital. She was born on November 4, 1929 in Springfield to Tom and Clara (Westbrook) Donnelly. She married Jerry Ely on May 11, 1957 and he survives.
She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Todd, Glenn, and Pete; one sister, Nita Gonnerman, and beloved granddaughter, Sarah Lynn Ely.
Marion retired from the Secretary of State office in 1991 and was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. She taught catechism for many years at Christ the King School of religion and in Des Plains, Illinois for three years.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Ely of 65 years; one son, Todd Ely of Springfield; one granddaughter, Lauren (Tony) Nevins of Springfield; three great-grandchildren, Lila, Cora and Gia Nevins and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial Gathering: 9 – 10 am, Thursday, December 15, 2022 at Christ the King Church.
Memorial Mass: 10 am, Thursday, December 15, 2022 at Christ the King Church with Reverend Clinton Honkomp officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
