Laurie Lucky Gearhart, 66, of Marietta, Ga., died on Monday, June 26, 2023, after a hard-fought 12-year battle with cancer. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 3, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marietta, Ga., with Monsignor John Walsh officiating. Interment will be at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park.
She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Lucky; and son, Patrick Gearhart.
She is survived by her husband, Douglas Gearhart; her four children, Mike Gearhart (Tiffany) of Marietta, Ga., Tom Gearhart (Kathleen) of York, S.C., Kathy Veilleux (Kyle) of Marietta, Ga., and Sarah Gearhart of Marietta, Ga.; mother, Barbara Lucky of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two brothers, Larry Lucky (Lisa) of Cedar Rapids and Terry Lucky (Connie) of DeWitt; three grandchildren, Bailey, Davis and Georgia Gearhart; and several nieces and nephews.
Laurie loved to sew, especially making gifts for her children and grandchildren. She was passionate about making and donating blankets and bought all the fabric she could fit in her sewing room (and then some). She loved being a wife, mother, grandmother and working in the NICU at Cobb Hospital for over 10 years. Laurie welcomed everyone that came into her home and treated them like they were part of the family. Her kindness and compassion are things that can never be forgotten, and she left behind a legacy of love.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home Macland Chapel in Powder Springs, Ga., with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. Arrangements under the caring guidance of Mayes Ward Dobbins Macland Chapel. www.mayeswarddobbins.com. (770) 943-1511.
