Kenneth D. “Rupe” Taylor, 79, of Iowa City, Iowa, formerly of Springville, Iowa, and Marion, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 17, at Springville Presbyterian Church, located at 165 Broadway St., in Springville, where the family will greet friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. The Rev. David Snyder will officiate. Burial with full military honors will follow at Springville Cemetery in Springville. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.

Ken was born on April 27, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Kenneth Dennis and Carol Elizabeth (Burroughs) Taylor. He was a 1961 graduate of Springville High School and went on to attend Upper Iowa University for two years. Ken then served in the U.S. Army in Germany as a military policeman. Upon his honorable discharge, Ken returned to Springville. He later moved to the Fort Myers, Fla. area, where Ken met and married Frances Snyder. They worked as dry wall contractors and did wood working as a hobby. After divorcing in 2005, Ken returned to Iowa, where he lived in Marion, until 2022. Ken met Roberta Peltier of Iowa City, with whom he enjoyed traveling and going to casinos. A special thank-you to her for becoming Ken’s caretaker after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in April of 2022. Ken enjoyed playing golf and was an avid card player, especially euchre, pinochle and blackjack. He loved driving his sporty red car. Ken will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ken is survived and lovingly remembered by his sister, Linda (Jim) Kipp and their sons, Brian (Aaron Murphy) Kipp and Kevin Kipp; significant other, Roberta Peltier; and cousins, Bonnie (Keith) King and family; and Kathleen (Merle) Nelson and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother at infancy, John Craig Taylor; niece, Angela Kipp; aunts, uncles; and two special cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Ken’s name to Iowa City Hospice Inc., 1526 Sycamore St., Iowa City, IA 52240.
