Julanne Young Sawyers passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre, N.Y., surrounded by her family. She was 72 years old. She experienced a cardiac arrest the preceding Friday night as she slept next to her loving husband of 49 years, John Ross Sawyers. On Thursday, per her desire, she was able to donate both kidneys to individuals in desperate need of transplants. Her remains will continue to replenish the earth, following a gentle transformation into life-giving soil.

Julie is survived by her husband, three children, and brother. Her oldest son Matthew and his wife Whitney have two children: Grace, 18, and Jacob, 12. Her daughter Jenny and her husband Paras have two children: Hannah, 11, and Sawyer, 8. Her youngest son Ross and his wife Cynthia have one son: Charlie, 13. Julie’s brother John Young and his wife Connie have two adult children: Laura and Mikey.

Julie was many things to many people. She was a wife and mother who went back to school after raising her children, earning a doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy. Upon retirement, she and John built a beautiful home on Schroon Lake in New York. She was a talented gardener as well as an artist, specializing in metalwork and stained glass. Her works of art were often displayed throughout her incredible gardens. She was a gracious host who shared her home, cooking, and spirited conversation. She had many friends and family members who loved her and will miss her terribly, from as far away as Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to as close as Hempstead, N.Y.
