Joyce Finan

Joyce Finan, 86, passed away peacefully on February 19. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her. But her family takes great joy in knowing she will be reunited, after 42 long years, with her beloved deceased husband John – her childhood sweetheart and the absolute love of her life.  She was preceded in death by her three wonderful siblings: Jim O’Connell, Eileen Evon and Ruth Finneran. She is survived by her four devoted sons and their spouses: Marty and Sheila, Matt and Jill, Tom and Rocio, John and Susie, and her cherished grandchildren who adored her: Sarah, Jack, Mark, Jimmy, JP, Maggie, Matthew, Ana, Cristina, Lara, Theresa, Leo and Katie.  She was each one’s biggest fan. She was a fun and caring aunt who so loved her many nieces and nephews. Through her caring nature and infectious laugh, she developed many strong and lasting friendships, especially those in her beloved HOC Club group.  She was active in the St. Giles Parish and very welcoming to all her friends and the friends of her sons at her home on Linden Ave in Oak Park. She became a widow at age 43, left to raise four young sons and she did so with strong determination, purpose, resilience and love, but also with fun and laughter. She was determined that each son have the opportunity for a great life and she successfully achieved her goal. But she was so much more than a devoted mother. Through her generous spirit and countless acts of thoughtfulness, she has left an endearing legacy to all those whose lives she touched. She loved to laugh, have fun and make others laugh. And nothing gave her more pleasure than giving someone the perfect gift. She was completely selfless, always putting others first and trying to make them feel better about themselves. She absolutely radiated kindness and she enriched our lives simply by the way she lived hers. We are all blessed to have known and been loved by Joyce Finan.
