John P. Ecenbarger

John P. Ecenbarger, 80, of Strasburg, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021 in his residence, after a period of declining health.
Born in Dover, he was the son of the late Clarence and Betty (Allenbaugh) Ecenbarger. John had formerly taught welding at Buckeye Joint Vocational School at New Philadelphia and had also assisted a number of individuals in becoming certified welders. John was an honorably veteran having served in the United States Navy and a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ at Strasburg. In his spare time, John had formerly competed as a driver in both NHRA and IHRA sanctioned drag races.
On October 29, 1971, John married Connie (Peters) Ecenbarger and next month would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Also surviving are his daughter, Michelle Ecenbarger of Strasburg; his son, John (Nancy) Ecenbarger of Massillon and his brother, James Ecenbarger of Atwood Lake.
In addition to his parents, a sister, Susan Ecenbarger also precedes him in death.
In keeping with his wishes, a private family graveside service will be held in Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg with Pastor Jason Rissler officiating. To honor John’s service to his country, Military Honors will also be conducted by the New Philadelphia VFW Post 1445. The Geib Funeral Center at Dover has been entrusted with John’s service arrangements.
