John Calvin “JC” Campbell
John Calvin “JC” Campbell passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021 surrounded by loving family. Visitation with family will be from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM, followed by the service at 2:00 PM, on Monday, April 5, 2021. Both will be held at Acton Methodist Church.
The Methodist Church strongly encourages facemasks on the church campus, but not required. A livestream of the service will be available for those who are unable to attend in person at: actonmethodist.com/live.
For those who find the Granbury First United Methodist Church location more convenient, the sanctuary will be available to attend and watch the livestream of the service there as well.
Interment: Granbury Cemetery.
Body will lie in state on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Wiley’s Funeral Home from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
JC was born July 29, 1932, in Dallas, Texas to John and Mildred Campbell. He joined the Naval Reserve during his senior year in high school. He graduated from Irving High School in 1950. In 1951, JC volunteered for active duty and attended boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. In March 1952, he reported to the USS FRANK E. EVANS (DD 754) in San Diego, California. After spending his Navy time in the Pacific Ocean and Korean waters, JC was discharged in October 1953. He returned to Texas where he attended the Dallas Art Institute. In December 1955, he became a student at North Texas State University where he met the love of his life, Sylvia Carmichael. She was a Hood County native, daughter of Hood County Judge Joseph Carmichael and his wife, Margaret.
JC and Sylvia were married July 19, 1958, in Granbury Texas at the First Presbyterian Church on Bridge Street. After living in Haltom City, Texas and the north side of Fort Worth, Texas, the couple moved to Granbury in April 1960 with their first born son John Lewis. Two more sons were born to them: Jerry Alan and Joel Kevin. Sylvia passed away on May 7, 2019.
Over the years, JC has worked for Southwestern States Telephone, Southwest Aeromotive Company, Convair Aeronautics, Ling-Temco-Vaught and General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin from which he retired in 2001. JC was a graphics art illustrator for the schematics/components of fighter jets for Lockheed, as well as completing the flight books and hand manuals for the B-58 Hustler.
In the past 56 years, JC has served Granbury and Hood County in many capacities; including Granbury City Council (1971-1992), Granbury Volunteer Fire Department (1971 to 2021), Granbury Masonic Lodge #392 and the Bluff Dale Lodge #724, Hood County Committee on Aging, and the Advisory Board of the Area Agency on Aging of the North Central Texas Council of Governments. He served on the Hood County Development and Compliance Advisory Board, the Hood County Hospital District Board, the Transit System Board, and was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America and the Lake Granbury Vintage Car Club. JC also served as the President of the USS FRANK E. EVANS Association (DD 754), Inc. for 25 years. He and Sylvia belonged to the First United Methodist Church Granbury, and most recently were members of Acton Methodist Church.
JC graciously allowed the Hood County Historical Commission (HCHC) to utilize his drawings for the Sesquicentennial Celebration (150th Birthday of Hood County).
JC was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother Jerry Arnold Campbell. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law; John and Teresa Campbell, Jerry and Michelle Campbell, Joel and Monica Campbell, 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and several cousins and extended family members.
