Jewell E. Dovenbarger

Jewell E. Dovenbarger, 77, of Ontario, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Avita Health System-Galion Hospital.

Born July 11, 1944, in Caldwell, Ohio, she was one of nine children of the late Sarah Mae (Nichelson) and Clinton Wayne Willey. She graduated from Caldwell High School. Jewell was generous and always looking out for others, becoming a caregiver to many over the years. She was a true believer in Christ and read her Bible every day. Although limited in her ability to attend church in recent years, when she was able she was a very active member of Journey Church of the Nazarene. She volunteered many hours of her time at church being a Sunday school teacher, greeter, kitchen helper and missions leader, as well as serving on the church board. Jewell enjoyed traveling and in her younger years was quite the bowler. She delivered the Mansfield News Journal for several years.

Jewell is survived by her son, Riley Jay (Jennifer) Dovenbarger; daughter, Julie (Doug) Montgomery; six grandchildren, Brittany Belsterli, Grayson Dovenbarger, Kyle Dovenbarger, Dustin (Tiffany) Montgomery, Alex Montgomery and Tiffany (Matt) Fair; three great-grandchildren, Isabella, Aurora and Nora; four siblings, June Hayes, Joy Cunningham, David (Etta) Willey and Darwin Willey; two brothers-in-law, Butch Davis and Dick Stobbs; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Riley Lewis Dovenbarger; infant daughters, Annette and Priscilla; and four siblings, Jeannie, Joyce, Joann and Don.

The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 29, 2022, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service conducted by Pastor Scott Maglott will follow at 10:30 a.m. She will be laid to rest in Mansfield Memorial Park. If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to Journey Church of the Nazarene-Missions Fund, 154 Clever Lane, Lexington, Ohio 44904.
