Jean Provencher

Jeanne Provencher, 72, passed away on October 12th, 2021 in Glenview, IL with her loving son by her side, and siblings and daughter speaking to her on the phone.

Born in Birmingham, MI in 1949, to John Provencher and Nancy Boscaglia, she moved with her family to Orlando in 1955, where she graduated from Boone High School.

After moving to Daytona Beach in 1974 she bought the Geneva Hotel on Seabreeze Boulevard and redeveloped the property into the Silver Bucket Bar and Celebrity Room, which were anchors of the Daytona Beach nightlife and tourist seasons in the late 70’s and 80’s. In 1984 she reopened the long dormant Snack Jack in Flagler Beach, ensuring an iconic piece of historic A1A provided new generations the experience of “Old Florida” oceanfront dining.

Her establishments welcomed all and were “home” to an incredible, and colorful, cast of loyal employees, regulars, and repeat tourists – all of whom she considered friends. They first came for the legendary ambience and entertainment, and returned for the authentic experiences and hospitable environments she cultivated with her constant presence and unforgettable personality.

She entered residential real estate sales in 1995 for the flexibility it provided in raising her children, and immediately was Rookie of the Year for the Volusia County Board of Realtors. That was the beginning of a 25 year “second act”, with Jeanne forging a successful career and respected reputation through her unparalleled work ethic and dedication to her clients and colleagues, many of whom became close friends.

Jeanne considered her friends and family the greatest reward of a life blessed by rich and unique experiences – saving her best act and most treasured experience for last as the devoted “Gia” to her 5 beloved grandchildren.

She loved music, art, travel abroad with her Aunt Carol, a good party, and great stories.

As a long-time resident and fixture of the business communities in Daytona, Ormond, and Flagler Beaches she will be missed by many – as anyone who knew her admired her sense of humor, character, and generosity of spirit.

She will be missed most of all by her surviving family – siblings John (Suzie), Mary, devoted baby sister Linda (Dave Hofer); children Dan Engel (Amy), Nancy (Nick) Kavallierakis; and grandchildren Luke, Alexander, Dawson, Dylan, and Declan.

A memorial mass will be held at noon on Saturday, 12/11, at The Basilica of St. Paul Catholic Church, 317 Mullally St, Daytona Beach, FL 32114; with a Celebration of Life to follow.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at Lbda.org/donate/
