Jasper J. Madonia, 101, of Springfield, died at 2:10 am, Monday, July 18, 2022 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital. He was born January 11, 1921 in Springfield, IL the son of Sam and Grace (Leone) Madonia. He married Rachel Leckrone July 5, 1943 and she preceded him in death March 30, 2018.
He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Brian Madonia in 1989; six sisters, Grace, Mary, Rosie, Josie, Angie, and Aggie; and three brothers, Tony, Sevet, and Joe.
He is survived by a son, John Joseph (Donna) Madonia of Hoschton, GA; granddaughter, Angela Marie (David) Mull of Cumming, GA; two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Caroline Mull; sister, Nancy Ryan of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jasper was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and served as an usher for over 50 years. He was a United States Army veteran serving in the 704th Ordinance 4th Infantry. He was a member of American Legion Post #32, VFW Post #755, Roman Cultural Society, 4th Infantry Division Association, and was an honorary member of the Italian American War Veterans.
He retired as a partner at Bridge Jewelry where he worked since 1939. He also worked at Zesto Dive-in in the 1950’s.
Visitation: 10 am – 12 pm, Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Blessed Sacrament Church.
Funeral Mass: 12:00 pm, Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Reverend Jeff Grant officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to Blessed Sacrament School, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
