Harry L. Cass

Harry L. Cass, 93, of Springfield passed away on June 5, 2021 at The Bridge Hospice Care Center in Springfield, Illinois. He was born on March 8, 1928 in Springfield, Illinois. Harry was the son of Harry A. and Lorine (Martin) Cass, who preceded him in death.

Harry graduated from Springfield High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1947.

Harry married Loraine Coleman, daughter of Martin and Kathryn (Albright) Coleman on October 1, 1949 at St Joseph Church in Springfield, Illinois.

He retired from Ameritech in 1985 as the Public Relations Supervisor for the downstate area. He was employed by Ameritech for 37 ½ years in supervisory positions in Decatur, Wood River, Alton, Joliet, Skokie, Arlington Heights, Chicago, and Springfield.

During his retirement he was active in the Illinois Bell Retired Men’s Golf League; President of the Fox Meadows Homeowners’ Association; President of the Association of Brother James Court; and served as Vice President on the Board of the Heritage Palms Condominium Association in Fort Myers, FL.

Harry is survived by his wife of 71 years, Loraine; sons Stephen (Alice), Paso Robles, CA; Lawrence (Janet), Hilton Head, NC; Michael (Madonna), Minneapolis, MN; Douglas “Chip” (Beverly), White Hall, MI; daughters Jill (Hanney) Cass, Springfield, IL; Kathryn (Lauren Zibble) Cass, Knox, IN. Son, David Cass, preceded his death in 2017.

Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; Shannon Mansfield (Rob), great-grandsons, Clayton and Cameron, Huntley, IL; Bryan Cass (Katie), great-grandson Maverick, San Luis Obispo, CA; Kristen Ross (Kris), great-grandchildren Declyn and Harlen, Napa, CA; Kelly Hoppesch (Charlie), East Grand Rapids, MI; John Cass, Chicago, IL; Erin Pearce (Chris Carver), great-grandchildren, Madelyn Pearce and Andrew Carver, Chatham, IL; Maria Cass, Washington, DC; Michelle Cass, New York, NY; Scott Cass, Chicago, IL.

Harry was a member of Christ the King Parish for 40 years where a funeral mass will be conducted at 9:30 am, Friday, June 11, 2021 with Reverend Christopher House officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.

Family and friends will gather from 4-7 pm, Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with a prayer service being held at 4 pm.

Memorial contributions may be given to Brother James Court.

Cremation was accorded by Staab Funeral Homes.
