Glen W. Meyer

Glen W. Meyer, beloved husband, and father, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021. Glen was born December 23, 1934 in Chicago, the son of Wilbur and Hilda Meyer.
Glen graduated from York Community High School. He then served his country proudly for 21 years in the U.S. Air Force; first as an aircraft mechanic, which took him to many different areas of the world and later, as a recruiter in Springfield, IL. During that time, he resumed his education, obtaining an Associate’s Degree. He retired from the service in Springfield, IL as a Master Sergeant in 1974. He then began a new career as an account agent for Allstate Insurance Company where he made many new friends. He retired from Allstate in 1999.
Glen was a firm believer in donating blood and contributed throughout his entire adult life, donating in excess of 16 gallons. His hobby was woodworking, and he made many beautiful items for the home. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and spent many happy hours golfing and playing pool.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Steven.
He is survived by Donna, his wife of sixty-five years, his daughter Deidre (Robert) Bridwell of Springfield, his sister, Karen (Herb) Backhaus of Elmhurst, IL, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service: 12:30 pm, Monday, April 12, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Pastor Pam Mitcham officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sangamon County Inter-Veterans Burial Detail or a charity of the donor’s choice.
