Gerald A. Maxwell, 78, of North Liberty, died peacefully at home on February 28, 2025 surrounded by family after over 10 years of fighting complications related to Agent Orange exposure. Gerry was cared for at home by his wife and children.

Gerry was born on October 16, 1946 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Edna Swanson and Owen Maxwell. After graduation from Fairfield High School, Gerry enlisted in the U.S. Army for three years and served in Vietnam as an Infantry Combat Medic.

Gerry married Mary White on December 29, 1972 in Fairfield. Gerry graduated from Kirkwood Community College in 1974. He was employed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist for 39 years, with the last 33 years being at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Gerry is survived by his wife Mary; son Adam Maxwell, daughter Emily Maxwell Englert (Toby) and daughter Amanda Maxwell; and grandson Sylus Englert. He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Roscoe and Eunice White as well as his brother-in-law Mike White.

A private family graveside with military honors will be held at a later date. A celebration of life may also be held at a later date. Lensing Funeral Home in Iowa City is providing arrangements.
