Eugene Virgil Nix, Jr.

Eugene Virgil Nix, Jr., 82, of Hendersonville, passed away while surrounded by his sons on Wednesday, July 22, 2021 at the Elizabeth House.

He was a native of and business owner in Henderson County, and attended Edneyville High School where he was an avid Yellow Jackets baseball and basketball player. He was a son of the late Cecil C. and Dessie Justice Nix and is also preceded in death by his devoted wife, Dixie Nix, great grandson Eli Jackson Nix, brothers, Herman, Alfred, Cecil, and Richard Nix, and sisters, Pauline Virginia Stepp, Juanita Freeman and Alice Fay Nix.

Following his initial work on the family farms in North Carolina and Florida, Eugene worked for Withers Van Lines, based in Miami, Florida. While living in Miami, Eugene was received by baptism into Westwood Lakes Baptist Church. He and his wife, Dixie, returned to Hendersonville in 1970 with their first three sons and started Four Seasons Moving Company, which was later contracted with Wheaton Van Lines. They loyally served their customers with local and long distance moves for many years. His beloved Dixie passed away in 1994. After retiring, Eugene moved to Deland, Florida, and lived close to his sister, Eileen Dover Nix Lee. He enjoyed fishing, tinkering on his old Chevy pickup, having lunch with his friends at the Big Rig restaurant, and visiting the local pelicans on the Indian River.

He is survived by his sons, Danny Nix and wife Leisa of Hendersonville, Tony Nix and wife Glenda of Hendersonville, David Nix and wife Renee of Belmont, and Duane “Ziggy” Nix and wife Rachel of Arden; 3 grandsons, Jacob Nix, Adam Nix, and Dustin Nix; 8 granddaughters, Lauren Ownbey, Courtney Nix, Danielle Savage, Brittany Weatherford, Sara Milam, Olivia Nix, and Eva Nix; 9 great-grandchildren, Joanna, Hallie, Stella, Luca, Nolan, Adalyn, Graylin, Weston, and Porter; several nieces and nephews; and his loving sister, Eileen Dover Nix Lee. He will be greatly missed by all but will live in our hearts forever as Pop and Papaw.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, July 27, 2021, in the Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. A private family service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Four Seasons Hospice at www.fourseasonsfdn.org.
