Estelle Day

Estelle Lois Day, age 91, of Plain City and formerly of Dover, died Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Mill Run Health & Rehab Center following a period of declining health.

Born in Twin City Hospital at Dennison on April 28, 1931, Estelle was a daughter of the late Luigi M. “Louis” and Laura Tamborini (Bollini). She grew up in Wainwright and graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in Dennison.

On September 28, 1956, Estelle married James C. Day and the couple celebrated nearly 57 years of marriage prior to his passing on July 1, 2013.

Estelle was a devoted Catholic who had a deep faith in the Lord. Her faith was nurtured at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia and for many years she enjoyed volunteering in the cafeteria at Central Catholic High School. Professionally, Estelle worked for the former Alsco-Anaconda at Sugarcreek. She loved being a mom and grandma and taking care of her family. Her family remembers her having a smile, kindness and sassy sense of humor that lightened those around her. She was known to enjoy any type of cookie, an ice-cold beer, or a small glass of vino. Additionally, she was talented at crocheting, knitting, needlework, loved playing BINGO, had an impressive collection of Precious Moments, and in her retirement years, enjoyed traveling with her husband.

She will be missed by her family that includes children, Beth (Jerry) Weaver of Palmetto, Florida, Michele Day of Dublin, Susan Wieser of Lexington, Kentucky, Jim (Art Brink) Day of Tustin, California, David (Susan) Day of Hilliard and Ann Day of New Philadelphia; eight grandchildren, Tiffany (Paul) Luc, Stacie Wickham, Melissa (Casey) Ames, Joshua Wieser, Austin and Jarret Day, Lauren (Justin) Thornton and Ben Quartz; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Estelle was preceded in death by her sister, Ida Tamborini.

In keeping with Estelle’s wishes, cremation care will take place. The family will hold a private graveside service in the Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.

Memorial contributions in Estelle’s name may be directed to Sacred Heart Church, 139 Third Street NE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
