Edgar William “Bill” Miller, 94, of Springfield, passed away at 6:47 pm, Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Sunrise Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Virden, IL. He was born on April 21, 1928, in Springfield, the son of Earl and Mabel (Kichline) Miller. He married Wanda Gagnon on July 19, 1947 and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Joan McQuillan (Lanny Deemer) of Jacksonville; six sons, Fred (Susan) Miller of Taylorville, Jay Miller of Chicago, Steven (Jane) Miller of Springfield, Kent Miller of Burbank, CA, Kevin (Michele) Miller of Wilmette, and Kerry (Lia) Miller of Ashland; fourteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren and counting; two sisters-in-law, Joann Gagnon of Springfield and Mary Lee Gagnon of St. Louis, and two nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents; two brothers, Earl and Bobby Miller, and one sister, Doris Hurley.
Bill is a graduate of Feitshans High School. He retired from Western Auto as an assistant manager after 51 years of service.
He was a lifelong member of Knox Presbyterian Church. He was a very loyal CUBS fan and enjoyed being outdoors. His biggest enjoyment was spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation: 4:30 pm – 7:00 pm, Monday, October 24, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield.
Graveside Service: 1 pm, Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Oak Ridge Cemetery with Pastor Paula Carmichael officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lewy Body Disorder, Alzheimer’s Association, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
