- February 4, 2022
Douglas Calvin Barnes, 63, entered into eternal rest with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 2, 2022.
Doug was the son of Marie Ray of Weaverville, NC and Danny Barnes of Hendersonville, NC. He worked for many years at Steelcase Inc., was a caring ordained minister for over 25 years, worked for many years at Sam’s Club, and had most recently worked for Columbus Auto Parts, from where he was semi-retired. Doug graduated from Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, CO where he received his degree in Biblical Studies. A man of real faith, Doug never met a stranger, and cared deeply for others, loved fishing, and was an excellent cook. He was a long-time member of area band Colt Creek and was a dedicated servant at his home church, Forest City Church of the Nazarene, where he was Associate Pastor in charge of the Children’s Ministry and Wednesday Night Bible Study. Most of all, he was a dedicated family man and loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was deeply loved and will be missed by many.
Doug was predeceased by his grandson, Lucas Barnes; his sister, Donna Penland; his stepfather, Braskey Ray, and his stepmother, Kathy Barnes. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 41 years, Patricia Metcalf Barnes of the home; two sons, Christopher Barnes (Rebecca) of Nolensville, TN, and Dustin Barnes (Shelley) of Pelzer, SC; three grandchildren, Alex and Aidan Barnes of Nolensville, TN and Taylor Barnes of Pelzer, SC. He is also survived by his parents; a brother, Dana Barnes (Aundrea) of Mooresboro, NC; a sister, Ginger Marstellar (Mike) of Flat Rock, NC; his sister in laws, Collen Bishop (Bill) of Etowah, NC and Joan Hedge (David) of Raleigh, NC, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation will be from 2-3pm on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 and the funeral will follow at 3pm in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Hendersonville.
The family would kindly request that in lieu of flowers any memorial contributions be sent to the Forest City Church of the Nazarene.
