Donna Mae Long, 90, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, peacefully at home in West Melbourne, FL. Donna is survived by her three children, Jeff Long and his wife Lisa, Royse City, TX; Leanne Olmscheid and her husband Daryl, Palm Bay, FL; Greg Long and his wife Marnie, West Melbourne, FL; seven grandchildren, Mat, Nick, Kirby, Bryce, Baily, Mike and Kyle; and five great-grandchildren; siblings Kenny (Ann) Lampe, Frances (Sandy) Lampe, of Cedar Rapids, IA, Daryle (Eileen) Lampe of Hiawatha, IA.
Her husband Maynard Long, parents Henry and Marie Lampe, sisters Lois, MaryAnn and Helen, and brother Donald preceded her in death.
Donna was born September 8, 1933, in Bancroft, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Marie (Wilhelmi) Lampe. She graduated from St. John’s High School and later from Nursing School.
Donna was married to Maynard Long on July 23, 1955, in Cedar Rapids. They eventually moved the family to Minnesota where they enjoyed time at the cabin and boating on the chain of lakes. After 7 years of harsh Minnesota winters, they decided to move to Melbourne, FL in 1982. Donna Mae had a successful nursing career and towards the end of her career, she was a Hospice nurse providing love and comfort to so many.
Donna Mae will be remembered as a very kind and loving soul. She was the best mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother anyone could ever ask for.
Visitation will be held on August 23, 2024, at 12 pm at St. John the Evangelist Church in Viera, followed by Mass at 1 pm. Committal service at Florida Memorial Gardens at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Catholic Charities of Dubuque, IA https://catholiccharitiesdubuque.org/donate.
