David Robert Hempfield
David Robert Hempfield of Mansfield passed away late Monday evening, April 19, 2021, at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus at the age of 64. He was born January 27, 1957, in Waco, Texas.
Dave was an invaluable employee at Wappner Funeral Directors for 12 years where his special, caring touch, attention to detail and dedication to hard work were on display every day. Dave’s kindness and professionalism were unparalleled and his positive attitude was a trait to be emulated. He was a friend to everyone and leaves a legacy that will be treasured forever. Dave was a true gentleman. Prior to his employment at Wappner’s, he served in the US Air Force with the Air National Guard, 179th Airlift Wing for 6 years.
Dave received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bowling Green State University. He had a passion for reading and enjoyed many different genres, reading hundreds of books over his lifetime. Dave relished the sun – boating and fishing on Lake Erie at every opportunity. He enjoyed traveling to the Atlantic coast seeing the multitude of lighthouses and shelling on the beach, hoping to find a unique shell to add to his collection. Just relaxing and sitting on the beach absorbing the warmth of the sun and smell of the ocean brought him a special peace. Dave was a lifelong member of Southside Christian Church.
Dave is survived by his children, Jamie Hempfield of Lexington and Jen (Josh) McConnell of SC; their mother, Sandy Hempfield; three grandchildren, Weston Hempfield, Bennett McConnell and Bodhi McConnell; his parents, Robert “Bob” and June (Steele) Hempfield of Mansfield; three sisters, Lori Hempfield of Mansfield, Karen Klamert of Columbus and Kathy (Mark) Reynolds of Crestline; five nieces and nephews, Tonya Frost, Tiffany Allison, Seth Miller, Nick Reynolds and Brooke Reynolds; and many great-nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2021, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Paul L. Lintern officiating. He will be laid to rest in Mansfield Memorial Park.
