David E. Capranica, Jr.

David E. Capranica, Jr., 61, of Springfield, died on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at his home. He was born on May 18, 1960, in Springfield to David E. and Virginia M. Capranica, and they preceded in him death.

Survivors include one son, Ryan (Alyssa) Capranica of Springfield; one daughter, Katie (Daniel) Musser of Athens; four grandchildren, Adalie Musser, Noah Capranica, Lucy Capranica, and William Musser; two brothers, John (Debbie) Capranica and Andy (Maureen) Capranica both of Springfield, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

David was raised in the Catholic faith. He was an avid sports fan, often enjoying a NASCAR race, an Illini Basketball game, the Bears, or his beloved Chicago Cubs. He especially loved that 2016 season.   David was a member of the American Legion Post 32 and enjoyed donating his time there. He was also a wonderful gardener, often sharing his bountiful tomato, pepper, and garlic harvests with friends and family, and was a wonderful cook. Above anything else, he was a proud father and grandfather, and a great friend.

David was employed by the State of IL and thankfully retired from there in 2017.

A family hosted Celebration of Life will be held from 10 am – 1 pm, Sunday, March 6, 2022 at American Legion Post 32, 1120 Sangamon Avenue, Springfield, Illinois 62702.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Cremation was provided by Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
