David A. Donaker
- March 15, 2021
David A. Donaker, 69, of Springfield, died on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center. He made sure he held on for Pi day, which was his favorite dessert. He was born August 23, 1951 to Robert D. Donaker and H. Jean Wade Donaker, and they preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Sparrow of Bloomington, and his son, Eric (Lisa) Burke of Arizona; three grandchildren, who he was so proud of, Rylie Burke, Elijah Allen Sparrow and Evie Jean Sparrow; one sister, Robin (Terry) Brunner of Oakley, IL; one brother, Mike (Dianna) Donaker of Springfield; companion, Caryll Willis and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
David attended Southeast High School. He was a United States Air Force Veteran stationed in U-Tapao, Thailand from April 1973 to April 1974. He was a Master Mason at St. Paul’s Lodge 500 and Master Overseer in Scottish Rite-32nd Degree. David was employed by the State of IL in the social services distribution center.
He loved gardening and at one point was a “master gardener”. He seemed to be an orchid whisperer and loved all the colors that bloomed. He was gifted at being a giver of random gifts and his kids will miss the packages in the mail he would send.
Visitation: 11 am – 1pm Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with a Masonic Service at 12:45 pm.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors being conducted and Pastor Gary Sheets officiating.
