Brenda Irene Sims

Brenda Sims (Yancey), age 72, put on her crown July 11, 2022. She was born in Akron, Ohio on April 20, 1950, to Charles and Leola Yancey. She was the youngest sibling of 6 children. Brenda was a graduate of Central High School class of 1968. She married the love of her life, Joe Sims, and they were a union for almost 48 years. She retired from First Merit Bank after 36 years of dedicated service.

Brenda was a member of The Livingstone Baptist Church of Barberton, Ohio. Brenda was anchored in the Lord at a very young age and “lived out loud” Psalm 150:6, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Leola Yancey, and brother, Jerry Haynes; father-in-law, Andrew Sims; mother-in-law, Earlean Sims; stepmother-in-law, Ruth Sims; brothers-in-law, Henry Sims, Timothy Sims, and Anthony Sims; and cousin-in-law, Catherine Huffman.

She is survived by her loving husband, Joe Sims; son, Justin (Michelle) Sims, one granddaughter, Leila Sims; brothers, Duane Charles Yancey and Gilbert Yancey; sisters, Marlene Evans and Marilyn Mullins, all of Akron; brothers-in-law, Lee Sims of Columbus, Ohio, Dr. Charles Sims of Bloomington, Minnesota, Zettie Sims of Canton, Ohio, Richard (Sandee) Sims of Green Bay, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Audrey Sims of Barberton, Ohio; special niece, Towanda Mullins (Gregory); Special friends, Dolores Golson, Wanda Hicks, Ida Karnes, Mary Law and Helen Owens; as well as a host of family members including uncles-in-law, aunts-in-law, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
