Cedar Rapids

A. Brandon Beaudry passed away March 6, 2023, from complications of multiple cancers, in the presence of loved ones while on home hospice.

He was born on July 3, 1947, in Davenport, Iowa, the eldest son of Adrian and Jeanne Beaudry. He graduated from Assumption High School in 1965 and the University of Iowa in 1969, where he majored in anthropology. Brandon married Cheryl Williams in 1970 and they resided in Eldora, Iowa for 2 1/2 years, while he was employed at the Iowa State Training School for Boys. He then studied law at the University of Iowa, and afterwards accepted a job in the 6th Judicial District Juvenile Court Office in 1974. Brandon was highly respected in his career for his fairness, honesty, and open mindedness. He and Cheryl welcomed their daughter, Lindsey, in 1982. They later divorced in 1996.

Brandon participated in multiple sports, including golf, softball, biking, fishing and tennis. He was very skilled at woodworking and also in creating brightly-colored stained glass hangings. He was an accomplished chess player, competing in tournaments and coaching others eager to learn the game. In addition, he looked forward to an annual getaway in Las Vegas with a group of close friends.

Brandon and Carolyn Wadsworth met in 2001 and spent 22 years as life partners. After retiring, they divided their time between homes in Cedar Rapids and “winter escapes” in North Carolina (11 years) and then Tennessee until the present. They took memorable road bike rides across states including Utah, Oregon, Hawaii, Virginia, Maryland and Iowa. They also made annual trips to ride the Root River Trail and to stay at their favorite B & B in Rushford, Minn. Winters included hiking and exploring the mountains of North Carolina, then enjoying the amenities of a Del Webb community after moving to Tennessee. Brandon especially loved spending time with his daughter and her family and his beloved cat, Kato.

He is survived by his partner, Carolyn; his daughter, Lindsey (Ryan); grandchildren, A.J., Grayson and Eva Greenzweig; brothers, Brian Beaudry and Eric Beaudry; and sister, DeeDee (Mike) Doeckel.

The family thanks Dr. Wilbur and her team at the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center for their skilled and compassionate care.

A celebration of Brandon’s life will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations in his honor may be made to the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
