Bertha R. Tyree

Mrs. Bertha R. Tyree was born August 27, 1931 to Mr. Henry and Mrs. Katherine Bonner in Darlington Alabama. Bertha was called home on September 5, 2021 in Cleveland Ohio.

Bertha attended Snowhill Institute and Camden Academy in Wilcox
County. Her family was part of the great migration in 1955 to the North in search for a better life during the oppressive times of the South.

On September 2, 1964, Bertha met the love of her life, Mr. Willie James Tyree, affectionately known as “ Mr. T or the G.O.A.T.

Bertha began working as a Nurse’s Aid for many years, but found a better opportunity at Sherwin Williams-Sprayon Products. She retired from Sprayon and ventured into House Rehabilitation.

As a child, Bertha excelled in Math and had a special interest in finance and business. She and her husband formed a company called B & T Construction in 1989. Their successful business includes an active portfolio of properties.

Bertha embraced the Jehovah’s Witness faith later in life. She was an active member, witnessing to the Gospel and was baptized. She spent a great deal of time in the Word of God.

Bertha Tyree was an avid Southern cook. She was famous for her Sweet Potato Pie, Egg Pie, Sock-it-to Me cake, 4-Layer Chocolate Cake, Lemon Cake and fantastic Peach Cobbler.

Bertha is well known in our family for her wisdom and famous “My momma Sayings.” One of her most notable sayings was, “The whole point about it!” Just ask the family, there were many more words of wisdom that she would frequently share.

Bertha was a true warrior. She fought Kidney Disease and Cancer.

Bertha and Willie loved each other for 57 years and during that time raised their daughters, Mary Addison-Carter (Rogelio) and Dannie Flanagan (Daniel). Bertha always wanted a BIG family and she got it; a brother, Eddie (Mary) both deceased; sister, Lucille Bonner (deceased); Anderson Banks; 2 granddaughters, Nikki and Chealsea; 3 great-grandchildren, Nyla, LJ and Ramsey; nephew, Ray Bonner; 2
great nephews, Ray Jr and Henry Bonner; 2 great nieces, Dominique and Katie and a host of cousins and other family members.
