Bernice Elizabeth Hill

Bernice “Betty” Elizabeth Hill, 87, of Ontario, Ohio passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at Avita Ontario Hospital. She was born January 28, 1934, in Philadelphia PA, to the late Leo and Margret (Loughrey) Bailey.

 

Betty married Robert C. Hill in 1953. During their marriage they lived in Auburn, New York, Boston, Massachusetts, and East Saint Johnsbury, Vermont. Betty was an accomplished seamstress and tailor for many years. She loved creating handmade quilts and sewing personalized gifts for her family and friends. Pins were always an “extra” surprise. She was very active in the East Saint Johnsbury, VT and Madison, OH Lions Clubs. Betty was a proud recipient of the Melvin Jones Award while in St. Johnsbury, VT.  This award is the highest form of recognition and embodies humanitarian ideas consistent with the nature and purpose of Lionism. Betty was proud of her family and loved spending time with them. She leaves behind beautiful memories and will be missed by all. 

 

Betty is survived by three children, Charles Hill of Boston, MA, Monica Hill of Mansfield, OH and Shawn (Diane) Hill of Savannah, GA; three grandchildren, Nicole Shockley, Alanna Thompson and Chari Bush; six great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sister, Margret Redmond of Scipio Center, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Hill, who passed in 2002; two children, James (Jay) Hill and Rosemarie “Rose” Champagne; and sister, Catherine Miranda.

A private family graveside gathering will take place at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Madison Lions Club, Attn: Al Liston, 540 Inwood Drive, Mansfield, OH 44903. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is honored to serve the family.
