Anna Elizabeth Madden

Of Linn Township

Anna Elizabeth Madden was born May 23, 1931 in Slovakia to Stefan and Zuzanna (Kluka) Rechtoris.  She passed away on December 5, 2021 at Oakridge Care Center in Union Grove, Wisconsin.

Anna lived a long and interesting life.  She was born in Brezova, Slovakia and as a young girl lived through the German occupation during WWII.  She had many stories to tell from that time.  After the war, her father decided he didn’t want his daughters to live under communism, so he sent them to live with his sister in Chicago when Anna was 18.  Without speaking English, the only job she could get was in a factory on an assembly line.  Anna quickly realized that education was important especially learning the English language.  She returned to school and after marrying and having children, she worked as a Realtor.  She was later a resident of Inverness, Ill., Lake Geneva, Wi., and Venice, Florida.  She loved spending time in Lake Geneva with friends and family, she was a longtime member of Big Foot Country Club.  She was an avid golfer and enjoyed competitive golf including a club championship and several holes in one.  In addition to her love of family and golf, she enjoyed swimming and tennis.  Anna will be missed by many.

Anna is survived by her husband James Madden; children Jane (Richard) Schwab, George (Andrea) Haviar, Myron Haviar, and James (Denise) Madden, Jr.; grandchildren Kristen (Ben) Belknap, Steve (Maria) Schwab, Stefan (Jennifer) Haviar, Michelle (Christopher) Taubensee, Clare Haviar, Madison Madden, and James Madden; great grandchildren Everett, Nora, Liam, Millie, Devin, Dylan, Owen, and Leah.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Olga (John) Haviar; brother John Pavlovcik; and daughter-in-law Kathleen Haviar.

A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, December 17 at St. Benedicts Catholic Church from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass at 11:00 AM.  Burial will follow at Cobblestone Cemetery.
