Abelardo Martinez

Abelardo “Abe” Martinez, age 36 of Plano, IL passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 27, 2021 at St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, IN. He was born on September 10, 1985 in Aurora, IL the son of Jose L. and Maria (Villa) Martinez of Plano, IL.

Mr. Martinez was a 2004 graduate of Plano High School in Plano, IL.  He was employed as a construction worker and was a member of the Labors Union Local #582 in Elgin, IL. Abelardo was a loving father, son, brother, nephew and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Abe was an avid Chicago sports fan. He enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears, Cubs, and Bulls. His competitive nature was displayed on the court when playing basketball and off the court with banter on why his teams were better to anyone who would challenge him. His contagious laughter and playful spirit had a way of captivating everyone’s attention through his animated story telling. His presence in any room never went unnoticed – his tumultuous way of opening and closing doors was always followed by a loud hello or a comment that would make anyone smile. His painfully tight hugs will be missed and he will always be remembered as the light of the family.

Abelardo is survived by his parents, Jose L. and Maria Martinez of Plano, IL; his son, Armando Martinez of Plano, IL; the mother of his son, Jessica Astorga of Plano, IL; his siblings, Jose Martinez, Yesenia (Daniel) Cadena, and Jackie (Baltazar) Resendez all of Plano, IL; his nieces and nephew, Gianna, Danny, Ava, and Liana all of Plano, IL; also several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 AM on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1001 N. Center Ave., Plano, IL. Interment will follow in Little Rock Township Cemetery, Plano, IL.

Friends may visit from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, October 1, 2021 at the Nelson Funeral Home, 1010 W. South St., Plano, IL.
