ZOFIA KOWALCZYK

ZOFIA KOWALCZYK

The faithful handmaid of God Zofia Kowalczyk fell asleep in the Lord June 13, 2025 at age 93 surrounded by her family.

Zofia Kowalczyk was born on March 18, 1932 in Poland to a deeply religious family. She had two brothers and three sisters. Zofia was a truly kind, compassionate, and loving woman whose warm spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. Having lived through the difficult times of World War II with her family, she carried a resilience and grace that defined her character. She married Walter Kowalczyk in 1951, and together they raised their children, John and Anna in Poland before immigrating to the United States in 1958, where they were proud to become U.S. citizens in Yonkers, NY. Later, she was blessed with daughter Amelia and son Walter, whom she loved dearly.

Zofia had many talents and worked many jobs as a cook, seamstress, and worked at Precision Valve to help support her family. She was always honest, polite and proper. She dressed with class. She enjoyed tending her vegetable garden.

Zofia was a talented cook and baker, she baked the bread (prosphora) used for the Holy Eucharist at Holy Trinity, a church she deeply loved and supported her entire life. Her gentle, honest, and polite nature, along with her impeccable style, made her a respected and cherished figure among family and friends. A devout woman of faith, she had a special devotion to the Virgin Mary and imparted her strong Christian faith to her children.

In her later years, she found joy in being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whose lives she brightened with her love and kindness. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Walter in 2005 (with whom she was married for 54 years), and her son Walter of blessed memory ✝ in 2019. Her legacy of love, faith, and warmth continues to inspire all who knew her. Zofia is survived by a brother Jaroslav and sister Maria both in Poland and by her children—Fr. John Kowalczyk (wife Kathy), Anna (husband William), and Amelia (husband Dr. Michael)—her grandchildren—Sophia, Nicholas, Tanya, Nadia, Michael, Natalie, Wally, Kaydee, and Zoe—and her great-grandchildren, Tatiana, Vlad, and baby Sofia. Though she will be dearly missed, her gentle spirit and her loving heart will remain forever in our memories.
