Vera Baker

Vera Mae Baker, age 94, of Meridian, Idaho, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Cornerstone Senior Living in Boise, Idaho.

Vera was born in April 21, 1931, to Ralph and Neva Morgan in Anthony, Kansas.

Vera and Harlon met in 1947. Just so happened, their future brother-in-law, Dean Elmore, was dating Vera’s older sister. Dean told Harlon he should meet Vera. On December 31, 1948, they were married in the home of Vera’s parents located in Anthony, Kansas.

After their marriage, Vera and Harlon lived in Oklahoma for about 10 years and then moved to Idaho. They lived briefly in Blackfoot before moving on to Twin Falls where they purchased their first home in 1959.

Vera worked at Idaho Frozen Foods, a potato processing plant, for several years as a lab supervisor before retiring.

For many years, Vera grew a garden and had multiple fruit trees in their backyard. Vera spent many hours canning jars of fruit and vegetables that the family enjoyed. Their yard was filled with beautiful flowers and shrubs that she meticulously maintained.

While in Twin Falls, Vera and Harlon were active members of the Valley Christian Church. At the church, Vera was very involved with the Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF). At church potlucks, Vera was well known for her homemade pies that were made with the fruit that she harvested from their backyard. Vera was known for her divinity, fudge, caramels, and homemade ice cream.

Vera and Harlon loved watching basketball. They attended many College of Southern Idaho basketball games while in Twin Falls. They were big fans of CSI’s basketball team. As dedicated fans of the team, they traveled to Hutchinson, Kansas, to watch and support the team play in the championship game.

In 2005, they sold their Twin Falls home of 46 years and moved to Meridian, Idaho, where they bought a home in a 55+ community, LaPlaya. Vera enjoyed playing cards and participated in the potlucks at the community clubhouse where everyone enjoyed her homemade pies.

While in Meridian, they attended the Church of the Warm Heart. Vera made some very dear friends that kept in touch with her after she was not physically able to attend services any longer. She always looked forward to their visits.

Vera is survived by her husband of 76 years marriage, Harlon Baker, their three children: Anita (Jimmy) Leichliter, Joyce Soran, and Dwight (Shari) Baker, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff of Cornerstone Senior Living and the Keystone Hospice care staff for the love and care they gave to Vera. They are forever grateful to you.

Vera will be laid to rest at Cloverdale Memorial Park in Boise, Idaho.

Per Vera’s request, there will not be a formal funeral service. A family memorial event will be held at a later date.
