Nancy Ramos

Nancy Ramos (née Olivo) was born on June 20, 1953, in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, to Gregoria Padilla—affectionately known as Goyita—and her then-husband, Jose Olivo.

Nancy was a beloved pillar of the Alfred E. Smith community, where she devoted herself to service, compassion, and advocacy. As a proud NYCHA resident, she served faithfully as Captain of the Tenant Patrol, working tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of her neighbors. Known to many as a surrogate mother, Nancy generously opened her heart and home to those in need—offering guidance, comfort, and the warmth of a caring embrace. Her presence radiated joy, laughter, and unwavering positivity.

Nancy will always be remembered as a fun-loving and nurturing mother to her own children and a maternal figure whose spirit illuminated the lives of everyone she touched.

She is survived by her sister, Rosita Ortiz; her children, Anthony Echevarria, Gloria Ramos, and Gladys Ramos; her grandchildren, Isis, Genisis, Nevaeh, AJ, DJ, Leilene, Marcus Echevarria, Jaxon Estevez, Mason Fitzgerald, Mikayla Moreira, and Erick Pinto; and her great-grandchildren, Brielle Flores and Jo’ziah Walker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gregoria Padilla and Jose Olivo; her siblings, Rafael Olivo and Iris Maldonado; and her beloved granddaughter, Olivia Monique Estevez.
