U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Nevada State Director Alida Ceballos, along with representatives from the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP), the Pine View Estates Homeowners Association, Minden-Gardnerville Sanitation District, USDA’s Rural Utilities Service, and others, broke ground Tuesday, June 3 on the infrastructure expansion project to connect the Pine View Estates community to sewer services.
“After years of negotiations to make this project work, we are so pleased to see this day come. Once this project is complete, hundreds of families in and near Gardnerville will benefit from knowing their essential systems are reliable and safe,” Ceballos said. “We appreciate the tireless efforts of community leaders and advocates who know the value of rural infrastructure. President Trump has made it clear that it’s time for progress and this investment is a sign of just that.”
In 2013, the small wastewater treatment system for the Pine View Estates community of Gardnerville failed. After analyzing potential remedies, the community established their best option was to connect and consolidate wastewater treatment with Minden Gardnerville Sanitation District. The process to accomplish this took years of navigating a land easement and securing funding from USDA Rural Development and NDEP.
USDA Rural Development is providing loan and grant funds through its Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program. Together with NDEP funds, the total investment for this project is $18,703,000.
