Tracey Jean Abel, 53, of Rathdrum, Idaho, passed away peacefully in her sleep from heart failure on May 9, 2025. Tracey was born October 19, 1971 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The daughter of Bonnie and Leroy Abel from Coeur d’Alene.
She was predeceased by her father in 2000.
Tracey graduated from Coeur d’Alene alternative high school in 1990. She received her certificate of cosmetology from Headmasters in Coeur d’Alene and began a lifelong career in hair salons, eventually owning and operating her own salon called “Tracey’s Corner” in Rathdrum for several years before joining long-time friend Stacy at her salon “Cuttin Loose,” also in Rathdrum.
Tracey survived a battle of thyroid cancer in 1978 at age 7, and ran her first Lilac Bloomsday 12K run three years later, earning the coveted finisher T-shirt.
Tracey was an avid reader, loved her music, creative cooking, camping, gardening and was ready for any adventure. Her greatest adventure was a 2018 trip to China with daughter, Megan and friends. Tracey enjoyed her many beloved animals, especially her dogs, Harley and Kaia.
She was a loyal friend, filled with love, kindness and compassion, touching many lives. Tracey was sweet, easygoing with a truly gentle soul.
She is survived by her daughter, Megan Johnson, St. Maries, Idaho; her daughter’s father, Darrin Johnson; her mother, Bonnie Abel, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; her sisters, Lori Hall and Cari Abel. Tracey leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins and loved ones — including her many beloved clients over the years.
Tracey left us too soon and our hearts are broken. She will be forever loved and forever remembered.
