Thomas Nielsen

Sadly, Thomas Nielsen passed away on August 1, 2025.

Thomas was born on December 22, 1948 to Hal and Katharine (née Brennan) Nielsen in the Bronx, New York. During his childhood the family spent most of their time in the Bronx but made fond memories spending summers in Brewster, NY. Tommy was a talented gymnast winning many trophies at various meets while attending DeWitt Clinton High School. Tommy received his Bachelor’s Degree from West Texas University and earned his Graduate Degree in Architecture from the City University of New York. He enjoyed a 42 year career working for the New York City Department of Education in the Architecture and Construction Department until his Retirement in 2023.

Tommy was a true New Yorker spending his whole life in the Bronx. He was very athletic often enjoying long runs through the city. He was also an avid musician, and he spent much of his free time playing blues music on guitars from his impressive collection. “The guitar is out of tune – but not out of soul.”

He was proud of his Irish and Danish heritage often sharing family history facts with the younger generations. Tommy will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit, generosity, selflessness, loyalty, and unconditional love for his family. He is survived by his brother Gerard of New Hampshire, sister Patricia (Bobby) Nelan of Pearl River, nephews Jonathan (Marnie) and William (Arianna), nieces Caitlin, Corinne, and Tara (Andrew), great niece Layla and great nephew Rory. He is predeceased by his parents Hal and Katharine Nielsen and sister-in-law Louise Nielsen of New Hampshire.

Viewing will be held on Tuesday, Aug 12, 2025 from 8:30 A.M. – 9:15 A.M. in Hodder Farenga Funeral Home, 899 McLean Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10704

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at 9:30 A.M in St. Barnabas Church, Bronx, NY.

Private Cremation
