Clara Yates

CLARA MAE (MARTIN) YATES, 95, of Grundy, VA, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, August 8, 2025, at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Grundy, VA. Born in Tazewell, VA, she was the daughter of the late James Martin and Josephine (Turner) Martin Silcott. She was a resident of Buchanan County over 70 years and was a member of Big Prater Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, a wonderful homemaker and worked as a clerk for the Buchanan County Building Inspection Department for 20 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Warren G. Yates; Sons: Wendell G. Yates and Duane A. Yates; Sister: Ruth A. Dotson; Brothers: Billy J. Martin and William J. Martin.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Teresa Yates Rice and husband Gerald of Ladson, SC, Diane Yates Presley and husband Harry of Honaker, VA; 6-Grandchildren, 8 Great-Grandchildren and Sister: Dorothy Martin Vencill and husband Joe of Bucyrus, OH.

Also, survived by several nieces and nephews.

The family wish to express special thanks to the loving and caring staff of Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Grundy, VA.

Visitation will be held at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Monday from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M.

Funeral Services for CLARA MAE (MARTIN) YATES will be conducted Monday, August 11, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Fuller officiating with burial to follow in Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery, Richlands, VA.

Active Pallbearers will be family and friends.
